Restaurant delivery zones with Orderable and ReachZone
If you take food orders with the free Orderable plugin, ReachZone can decide who gets delivery: by radius, drawn area, postcode or drive time, with a fee and a minimum order per zone.
Who does what
- Orderable runs the ordering: the menu layout, the Delivery / Pickup choice and the date at checkout.
- ReachZone checks the delivery address: it removes delivery outside your zones, adds the zone’s delivery fee and delivery time, and holds delivery orders to the zone’s minimum.
- Pickup is left alone. An Orderable pickup order pays no delivery fee and is never held to a zone minimum.
We tested this with Orderable (free) 1.21.1 on WooCommerce 11.2, on the classic checkout and the Checkout block. Orderable Pro was not tested.
Set it up
- Install and set up Orderable as usual, including its delivery zone (a WooCommerce shipping zone with your postcodes). Orderable needs a matching zone for its Delivery option to appear.
- In ReachZone, draw your delivery zones (see the setup guide) and set the fee, the delivery time and, if you want one, the minimum order for each.
- Leave Allowed shipping methods empty on those zones. The list only shows WooCommerce’s own shipping methods, not Orderable’s, so ticking any of them removes Orderable delivery in that zone.
- Charge the delivery fee in one plugin only. Orderable’s fee is part of its delivery rate; ReachZone’s is a separate “Delivery fee” line. If both are set, the customer pays both.
- Decide what happens outside your zones (below).
Outside your zones: keep pickup open?
Outside every zone, ReachZone removes Orderable’s Delivery option. Then it depends on one setting in ReachZone’s checkout settings, “Always keep local pickup available, even outside the delivery zones”:
- On (recommended for restaurants): Pickup stays available, so a customer who is out of range can still order and collect.
- Off: no option is left and the order can’t be placed. The customer sees “outside our delivery area” or Orderable’s “no delivery or pickup options” text, depending on the checkout.
More on this in Block checkout outside your area.
Two zone lists, kept in step by hand
Orderable’s zones are WooCommerce shipping zones made of postcodes. ReachZone’s zones are its own: circles, drawn shapes, drive-time areas and postcode lists. They don’t sync. ReachZone has the final say on who gets delivery, but make sure your Orderable zone covers at least the same area, or Orderable won’t offer delivery to addresses ReachZone would accept.
Put the checker on your menu page
Add the ReachZone checker block (or the [reachzone_checker] shortcode) above or below Orderable’s [orderable] menu, so customers can check their address before they fill the cart. It works independently of the cart. See the postcode delivery checker guide.
Free plan or paid?
Zones, fees, minimums and the pickup setting are in the free plugin. Without an address lookup the free plan checks postcodes and the customer’s shared location, so for a radius or drawn zone a paid plan adds street-address lookups, plus drive-time zones; see pricing.
Orderable is a plugin by its own authors, not by ReachZone. Ask them about Orderable itself; ask us about anything on this page.
